About Chisamba District

A warm welcome to the Chisamba Town Council website, a platform created to give you, our valued and esteemed public the opportunity to interact with us, as well as to ensure that information on services and opportunities in Chisamba District is made available and easily accessible by you the general public.Chisamba District is part of the districts of Central Province, Zambia, it covers a total surface area of 5,526 square km and is known for its agricultural activities. The district shares borders with Kabwe district to the north, Kapiri-Mposhi district to the northeast, Luano district to the south-east, Chongwe to the south and Chibombo to the west. 

The current district CDB is located 85 Km and 130 Km from Lusaka and Kabwe respectively and its proximity to the two towns offers it great potential for development. The District has one constituency called Chisamba Constituency and 12 wards namely Chisamba, Mwapula, Chikonkomena, Chamuka, Monangombe, Liteta, Kamano, Mutenga, Muswishi, Mwantaya, Miswa and Mulungushi. These wards form sub district structures called Ward Development Committee (WDC) in line with Decentralization Policy. The District has two chiefdoms under the leadership of Their Royal Highnesses Chief Chamuka VI and Chief Liteta.

The district has natural forests with vegetation types that are suitable for livestock husbandry. Several dambos and wetlands make it suitable for fishing, gardening and grazing of livestock in the dry season. The Major rivers are Kanakantapa, Mwomboshi and Mulungushi .The Mwomboshi River drains into Mulungushi River and holds the Mwomboshi dam (Under Construction) while Mulungushi holds the famous Mulungushi dam. The district has great potential for establishment of mines with traces of several minerals like gold already being mined.
